| Gear | Why You Need It | Budget Option |
|---|---|---|
| Trail/Full-face helmet | Head protection is non-negotiable | Giro Fixture (~€50) |
| Knee pads | Rocks hurt. Pads don't. | Fox Launch (~€40) |
| Gloves | Better grip, protects hands in falls | Any MTB glove (~€20) |
| Eye protection | Mud, branches, dust | 100% Strata (~€30) |
Tell someone your plan: Always tell a parent/friend where you're riding and when you expect back.
Charge your phone: For navigation and emergencies.
Carry a spare tube and pump: Punctures happen. Being stuck miles from home isn't fun.
Check conditions: Irish weather changes fast. Wet rock is very slippery.
Ride within your limits: It's better to roll something slowly than crash because you went too fast.
Every rider crashes. Learning how to fall — tucking your chin, protecting your head, rolling rather than sticking your arms out — reduces injury significantly. Practice in safe environments first.
