Dungarvan sits on the south Waterford coast, with the Comeragh Mountains rising directly behind the town. For mountain biking, Dungarvan offers a unique combination: serious hill riding 15-20 minutes north into the Comeraghs, plus the Waterford Greenway (a flat 46km converted railway) for recovery days or family-friendly miles.
The northern Comeragh approaches from Dungarvan go up through the Coillte forest network on the southern side of the range. Mahon Falls is 20 minutes by car — one of the most dramatic ride starts in the country, with the waterfall pouring down a cliff face above the car park.
Coumshingaun, often called the most perfect glacial corrie in Europe, is 25 minutes north of Dungarvan. The hike-up around the rim is for experienced riders only but the lower approach trails are rideable.
Dungarvan town itself has serious cycling infrastructure thanks to the Greenway — bike-friendly cafes, multiple hire shops, and a regular cyclist scene. The MTB-specific shop options are limited but everything you need for repairs is in the town.
