Cashel sits in the middle of Tipperary, between the Galtee Mountains south and the Devil's Bit north. From a mountain bike point of view, the riding around Cashel is mixed — open farmland and forest patches rather than continuous hill country, so most MTB days from Cashel involve a 20-40 minute drive to the trail head.
The Galtees are the obvious go-to: 25-30 minutes south via Cahir to the southern Coillte forest network, then big-day riding up toward Galtymore. The Slieveardagh Hills east of Cashel give you quieter rolling-hill riding for shorter sessions — gravel and forest tracks rather than purpose-built MTB trails.
North of Cashel toward Templemore, the Coillte forest network is significant — wider valleys and gentler terrain than the southern ranges. Templemore Forest itself has well-marked walking trails that ride well for family days out.
Cashel is a tourist town (the Rock of Cashel pulls coach loads in summer) so accommodation and food are easy. Not as MTB-focused as Clonmel but a workable base for exploring Tipperary's spread-out riding.
