Carrick-on-Suir sits on the Suir valley between Clonmel and Waterford city. Mountain biking from Carrick centres on Slievenamon — the iconic 721m dome that dominates the local skyline. The southwest approach via Kilcash gives you a proper fire-road climb to the summit.
South of Carrick, you can reach the Comeragh Mountains via the R676 — Mahon Falls and the coum lakes are 30-35 minutes by car. A weekend ride from Carrick can comfortably cover Slievenamon (morning) and a Comeragh loop (afternoon).
For shorter sessions, the Curraghmore Estate and Ballypatrick forestry network (just south of the town) ride well on quiet forest tracks. Family-friendly and rideable in most conditions.
Cycling is in Carrick's blood — the town is home to the Sean Kelly Tour every August and produces serious road cyclists. The MTB scene is smaller but growing, particularly on the Slievenamon side.
