Mountain Biking in Cappoquin

Glenshelane Forest base — the best signposted ride in the area.

Cappoquin · Co. Waterford · 35 minutes south of Clonmel

Cappoquin is a small Waterford town at the confluence of the Blackwater and the Glenshelane river. The Glenshelane Forest Park, immediately north of the town, is one of the most accessible and best-marked mountain bike trail networks in the wider Clonmel catchment.

Glenshelane has a Coillte trail network with marked walking routes that ride well on a hardtail or trail bike. Bridges, river crossings, gentle climbs and descents through mixed forest. Family-friendly on the green/blue equivalents and more committed if you push higher.

From Cappoquin you can also reach the Knockmealdown Mountains north (15 min via Mount Melleray) and the Comeragh foothills east (25 min via Aglish and Kilmacthomas). Mahon Falls is 30 minutes east.

Cappoquin itself is small — limited accommodation, but Lismore (5 minutes west) and Dungarvan (20 minutes south) are the obvious overnight options. The town has a good cafe scene and the Blackwater is one of the best salmon rivers in Ireland.
